As the very first residential Teen Challenge program for boys, Teen Challenge Adventure Ranch has been bringing restoration to families for over 45 years. We feel that a relationship with Christ is the surest way to a lasting difference in the lives of the teenagers we serve. Every main element of our program is biblically based. We feel that centering our program on Christ is the reason countless teenagers have found success here, even where other programs have failed.
Several factors set Teen Challenge Adventure Ranch apart from other therapeutic boarding schools:
MORE STAFF — First, we keep student-to-staff ratios low so that boys receive lots of supervision and one-on-one attention. Our staff are highly trained and most have bachelor or master’s degrees in their area of work.
ADVENTURE-BASED LEARNING — Our outdoor adventure program is second to none. Our students have regular opportunities to experience fun and challenging outdoor activities. Students enjoy camping, backpacking, rappelling, canoeing, and spelunking (cave exploration). Students are challenged physically and learn the importance of goals and perseverance.
MORE PRIVACY FOR EACH BOY — Rather than housing all the boys in a large dorm filled with bunk beds, our students have their own bedrooms, separate from the noise and influence of the other boys.
MORE FAMILY VISITS — Residents are allowed to visit family on normal scheduled breaks.
MORE MISSION TRIPS — Mission trips form a strong element of the program, for this reason: as boys mature, they naturally need to give back and serve others.
EXTENSIVE AFTERCARE PROGRAM — After completion of Teen Challenge Adventure Ranch, boys return home followed by a strong aftercare program to continue the forward momentum. Aftercare is included in our tuition package.
Education means a lot to us at Teen Challenge Adventure Ranch for Boys, because we think education holds the key to future success. In our private Christian school with fully accredited classes, boys complete courses led by certified teachers, with individual tutoring available to assist those who are struggling. We offer a GED option for students with not enough credits to complete senior high school on time. Credits earned can transfer to public or private schools at home. Boys may also study basic vocational skills including woodworking, basic electrical, construction and carpentry, shop skills, basic automotive, and others. After leaving Teen Challenge Adventure Ranch, many boys prefer to continue their classwork from home through dual enrollment with Alpha Omega Academy distance learning.
Students at Teen Challenge Adventure Ranch participate in numerous recreational activities, both on and off campus. We operate an adventure program. In addition to being fun and physically challenging for the boys, it teaches them about reaching goals, communicating and dealing well with others.
Many teens have put their lives back on track and have gone on to make a difference for Christ after completing the program at Teen Challenge Adventure Ranch. Neosho is the most populous city in and the county seat of Newton County, Missouri, United States. Neosho is an integral part of the Joplin, Missouri Metropolitan Statistical Area.
Located in southwestern Missouri on the southern edge of the Midwest, Neosho lies at the western edge of the Missouri Ozarks. The population was 11,835 at the time of the 2010 census.
The name “Neosho” is generally accepted to be of Native American (most likely Osage) derivation, meaning “clear, cold water”, referring to local freshwater springs. The springs attracted varying cultures of Native American inhabitants for thousands of years. It was also ideal for the later white settlers, who founded the city in 1833. It was incorporated as a municipal government in 1878. Nicknamed “City of Springs”, Neosho has long served as an agricultural center and more recently as a National Fish Hatchery. It is known locally as the “Gateway to the Ozarks”, and since 1957 as “the Flower Box City”.
Neosho natives including painter and Regionalist muralist Thomas Hart Benton, ragtime composer and pianist James Scott, and celebrated African-American inventor and botanist George Washington Carver have contributed to American life. Today, Neosho is enjoying a renaissance, particularly in the historic downtown area. Through a combination of private investment and public resources, numerous restoration and revitalization projects have been undertaken in the historic city center to restore its architectural quality, upgrade the infrastructure, and improve the quality of life of downtown. Due to 21st-century widespread economic problems in the region and state, however, the city is now struggling with its budget.
Neosho takes part in research to support America’s transition to alternative energy. Neosho’s Crowder College has been deeply involved in such research since the early 1980s; in 1984, it built the first solar-powered vehicle to successfully complete a coast-to-coast journey across the United States. In 2009, the college began constuction on the MARET (Missouri Alternative & Renewable Energy Technology) Center, a facility to encourage the development of experimental programs and alternative energy systems.
