As the first residential Teen Challenge program for boys, Teen Challenge Adventure Ranch has been assisting families for nearly 60 years. We feel that a relationship with Christ is the best source of a lasting difference in the lives of the young men we serve. Every main element of our program is biblically-based. We feel that centering our program on Christ is the reason so many young men are finding success here, even where other programs failed.
MORE STAFF — First, we keep student-to-staff ratios low in order that boys have plenty of supervision and individual attention. Our staff are highly trained and most have bachelor or master’s degrees in their area of work.
ADVENTURE-BASED LEARNING — Our outdoor adventure program is second to none. Our students have regular opportunities to experience fun and challenging outdoor activities. Students enjoy camping, backpacking, rappelling, canoeing, and spelunking (cave exploration). Students are challenged physically and learn the importance of goals and perseverance.
PRIVACY FOR EACH BOY — Rather than housing all the boys in a large dorm filled with bunk beds, our students have their own bedrooms, separate from the noise and influence of the other boys.
FAMILY VISITS — Residents are allowed to make visits to home on seasonally scheduled breaks.
ADDICTION TREATMENT — Our program is a licensed dual-diagnosis Addiction Treatment Center with staff expertly trained to treat substance abuse, as well as harmful lifestyle addictions to gambling, pornography, or online gaming.
EXTENSIVE AFTERCARE PROGRAM — After successfully finishing Teen Challenge Adventure Ranch, boys go home accompanied by a strong aftercare program to prevent relapse . Aftercare is included in our tuition package.
Education means a lot to us at Teen Challenge Adventure Ranch for Boys, because we believe education forms a foundation for future success. While enrolled in our private school with fully accredited courses, boys complete courses led by certified teachers, with individual tutoring available to help those who are struggling. We offer a GED track for anyone with not enough credits to graduate high school in an appropriate time frame. Credits earned can transfer to private or public schools at home. Boys may also study basic vocational skills like woodworking, basic electrical, construction and carpentry, shop skills, basic automotive, and others.
Students at Teen Challenge Adventure Ranch engage in a variety of recreational activities, both on and off campus. We operate an adventure program second to none. In addition to being fun and physically challenging for the boys, it teaches them about reaching goals, communicating and dealing well with others.

Topeka means “to dig good potatoes” in the languages of the Kansa and the Ioway. The potato referred to is the prairie potato (Psoralea esculenta), a perennial herb which is an important food for many Native Americans. As a placename, Topeka was first recorded in 1826 as the Kansa name for what is now called the Kansas River. Topeka’s founders chose the name in 1855 because it “was novel, of Indian origin and euphonious of sound.”Topeka’s Roots: the Prairie Potato Barbara Burgess]King, Dick (2005) “Topeka” rooted in spuds. We value education and academic success, considering it key to long-term life success. Most of our staff have advanced degrees. Many of the students who come here lack sufficient high school credit to obtain their diplomas in a timely manner, but we help them get caught up and even to retake classes for a higher GPA. Every boy on campus is taught and tutored several hours each day. Our disciplined and structured approach to learning, with individualized academic goals and progress, helps the boys get back on track with their education and our courses are fully accredited and transferrable.
