Outdoor Adventure
Outdoor Adventure Promotes Self-Growth
Healing requires growth. While boys spend ample time engaged in traditional therapeutic activities, we also believe in supplementing evidence-based techniques like cogntive behavioral therapy or accelerated resolution therapy with more engaging activities like camping, hiking, and rock climbing.
These adventure-based activities challenge boys to step outside of their comfort zone and try new things. As they face their fears and overcome obstacles, they build confidence.
These skills translate to all areas of life, enabling progress in therapy, the adoption of a goal-oriented mindset, and greater resilience.
Hall Trips
Students participate in bi-monthly camping trips and day trips for hiking, rock climbing and other activities at nearby parks, trails, and recreation areas across the Ozarks.
Campus Ropes Course
Our campus features high and low ropes courses with ziplines, providing the opportunity to for students to learn foundational climbing and safety skills in a controlled environment.
Camp Orr Retreat
Twice per year, our entire campus participates in a week long camp retreat on the Buffalo River. All staff, including therapists participate, allowing us to continue the same level of services in a unique way.
XL Activities
In between camping trips and adventure excursions, students participate in a variety of facilitated experiential learning activities that continue to foster personal growth.
Outdoor Adventure as a Therapuetic Tool
Nature has a calming effect on the nervous system. Spending time outdoors can reduce stress, improve mood, and foster mindfulness. At Teen Challenge Adventure Ranch, we use the natural benefits of spenidng time outdoors to supplement therapeutic services by structuring activities supervised by certified instructors with therapist-led debriefs.
