Adventure-Based Behavioral Therapy
Our Teen Challenge for boys program is all built around providing the boys with adventure and physical activities indoors and outdoors. Outdoors, we go horseback riding, camping, backpacking, rappelling, canoeing, swimming, hiking, and spelunking (rock climbing and cave exploration). Upon entering our program, the boys take a three-day camping trip with staff and several seasoned residents. Additionally, there is one outdoor adventure a month, and twice a year, we spend a week at Camp Orr, the Arkansas Boy Scouts Camp.
We also have a certified ROPES COURSE on our property, where the boys learn the importance of teamwork, goals, and perseverance. They develop better communication skills and improve their ability to work cooperatively with others.
We are the first Teen Challenge for boys program to install a certified ROPES COURSE and CLIMBING WALL on our property. Our staff is professionally trained and equipped to offer students this effective adventure-based intervention.
The ropes course allows the boys to meet several goals by focusing on positive achievements and confronting personal fears and anxieties. Some adventure-based therapy achievements they will experience while participating in our ropes course include positive risk-taking, improved self-confidence, expanding comfort zones, improved leadership skills, overcoming fears, and an overall increase in personal and team development.
Our ropes course experts design, build, maintain, and operate the course using state-of-the-art safety equipment. Everyone, whether physically fit or athletic, can participate in the ropes course.
An Active Adventure-based Therapy Program is Important for Behavioral and Addiction Recovery
Teen Challenge Adventure Ranch students participate in many recreational activities and outdoor trips during their stay here. They go to concerts and conferences, visit theme parks, go fishing, rock climbing, camping, hiking, bowling, ice skating, and many other outdoor activities.
A variety of activities are also offered on campus. Students regularly play basketball in our gymnasium, use our weight lifting equipment, play Frisbee golf or flag football, or use our expertly supervised, low ropes/adventure-based training course. We are also an official affiliate of CrossFit Training.
