The Effects of Antisocial Personality Disorder on Your Son
Does your boy suffer from Anti Social Personality Disorder (ASPD), which is defined (by the American Psychiatric Association) as “a pervasive pattern of disregard for, and violation of, the rights of others?” Symptoms include failure to conform, deceptiveness, impulsive conduct, irritability, indifference for his own safety (and the safety of others), and a pattern of irresponsible behavior and lack of repentance.
A chronic mental condition in which your child might show signs of dysfunctional ways of thinking and relating to others, he might treat others with total apathy to their feelings, be calculating and insincere, possibly violating the law, and admitting to no regret.
ASPD traits are fairly complex for parents to distinguish. There is not a universally agreed upon successful treatment for this disorder but there might be success in ones that show the high cost of illegal and inappropriate behavior. There are studies that reveal reward systems or contingency management systems to be somewhat advantageous in navigating behavior to a more acceptable norm (not to be confused with normal, parental attempts at punishment and incentive).
While an extremely complicated disorder to treat, your boy will enduring treatment for ASPD, as well as for any related conditions, such as depression, substance abuse and anxiety.
It is quite important to have ASPD properly diagnosed and treated, so that he doesn’t suffer possible, life-altering consequences, such as alcohol or substance abuse, risky and reckless behaviors, even repetitious law-breaking leading to imprisonment.
You don’t want ASPD to control his life!
Teen Challenge Adventure Ranch…Transforming Troubled Boys into Young Men of Character
The very first Teen Challenge school of its kind, we continue to find inventive new ways to help struggling boys, even after 4 decades years of service. We are a Christian, therapeutic boarding school and ranch, devoted to helping troubled boys by applying faith-based solutions to life’s problems.
Our approach to learning is very structured and disciplined. Our approach to teaching, program format and interventional style are all biblically based. We see academic success as a key to long-term life success.
We strive to help the boys become psychologically balanced, physically healthy, mentally sound, academically accomplished, socially adjusted and spiritually alive. We have seen even the most oppositional and out-of-control boys transform their lives and become young men of character and integrity.
With our critical phase Aftercare program, we don’t disappear after your child returns to home and family, but help with his transition challenges, by finding a local mentor, providing continued encouragement and accountability, and avoiding a return to the problems that brought him to us in the first place.
It can be overwhelming to send your child outside your home for the help he needs, and the hardest thing you will ever have to do as a parent. If no other treatments have worked, his problems persist, or are worsening, or his behaviors placing his health or life at risk, consider Teen Challenge for your boy.
Our adventure-based therapy and learning program is second to none. Boys are taught the importance of goals and perseverance; our therapeutic program offers hope to reach their full potential and the opportunity for a new and more productive future.
