As You Search For Schools For Troubled Youths,
Consider Teen Challenge Adventure Ranch
Teen Challenge Adventure Ranch believes that God has a purpose and a plan for every boy who comes to Teen Challenge. It’s not just about teaching boys how to stay out of trouble. It’s about seeing our students reach their full potential and experience the hope and future that God intended them to have. We believe that every boy that comes to us has the potential to become a man of character and integrity. Their attitudes can be positive, and they can be successful in their relationships with others. All of these elements are presented in a loving Christian environment.
Teen Challenge utilizes an integrated model of intervention. Our methods of intervention are Biblically-based and incorporate concepts and techniques from various psychological approaches.
Our program makes use of behavioral elements, experiential activities, therapeutic interventions, and social/interpersonal activities. All of these elements are presented in a loving Christian environment.
Academic Repair and Success
We value education and academic success, considering it key to long-term life success. Most of our staff have advanced degrees. Many of the students who come here lack sufficient high school credit to obtain their diplomas in a timely manner, but we help them get caught up and even to retake classes for a higher grade point average. Every boy on campus is taught and tutored several hours each day.
Our disciplined and structured approach to learning, with individualized academic goals and progress, helps the boys get back on track with their education and our courses are fully accredited and transferrable.
Adventure-Based Therapy
One of the tope rated schools for troubled youths, Teen Challenge Ranch is built around providing the boys with a program of adventure and physical activities, indoors and outdoors. Outdoors, we go horseback riding, camping, backpacking, rappelling, canoeing, swimming, hiking, and spelunking (rock climbing and cave exploration). Upon entering our program, the boys are taken on a three day camping trip with staff and several seasoned residents. Additionally, there is one outdoor adventure a month, and twice a year, we spend a week at Camp Orr, the Arkansas Boy Scouts Camp. We also have a certified ROPES COURSE on our property where the boys learn the importance of teamwork, goals, and perseverance. They develop better communication skills and improve their ability to work cooperatively with others.
Our School For Troubled Youths Program Offers Equine Therapy
Equine therapy helps teen boys develop needed skills and attributes, such as accountability, responsibility, self-confidence, problem-solving skills, and self-control.
Equine therapy is one component of a comprehensive treatment plan, meant to complement conventional approaches appropriate for the specific situation. Equine therapy sessions are led by a certified Equine-Assisted therapist, who has received specialized training in equine therapy, as well as traditional training in the mental health field.
The interaction between horse and client often unlocks blocked emotions, allowing them to be processed and healed. Equine therapy also provides an innovative milieu in which the therapist and the patient can identify and address a range of emotional and behavioral challenges. Both during the activity and after the patient has finished working with the horse, the equine therapist can observe and interact with the client in order to identify behavior patterns and process thoughts and emotions.
