Boys With Oppositional Defiance Disorder

The Effects of Oppositional Defiance Disorder on Your Son

Christian residential treatment centers for youthWe can help your son with Oppositional Defiance Disorder, or ODD, a psychiatric disorder that can emerge in childhood, in which he exhibits argumentative behaviors, regularly refusing to obey you and, to put it simply, is basically in a nasty mood (particularly around anyone in positions of authority).

While many boys may evidence some of these characteristics at different times, if your son is intentionally troublesome or belligerent, exceptionally insubordinate, clearly angry or ill-tempered, continually in opposition with authority, malicious, maybe even blaming others for his mistakes, he might have ODD.

How We Can Treat Your Son’s Oppositional Defiance Disorder at Teen Challenge Adventure Ranch

If not treated, ODD is a trying condition, both for you and him.   It is vital to categorize his Disorder properly, in order to be certain that his actions don’t exacerbate, possibly leading to issues with powers that be, or behaviors that are harmful to himself.

In addition to possibly having other, correctable conditions (i.e.: ADHD or depression), ODD is seen as a precursor to other, more severe problems such as conduct disorder, criminal behavior and substance abuse.

Useful behavioral therapy might focus on how to prevent problematic thoughts or behaviors from accidental reinforcement. Instead, use of positive reinforcement and praise for suitable behaviors are key to successful treatment.
