As the initial residential Teen Challenge program for boys, Teen Challenge Adventure Ranch has been serving families for more than 45 years. We feel that centering our program on Christ is the reason countless teenage boys have realized success here, even where other programs failed.
A few factors distinguish Teen Challenge Adventure Ranch from other therapeutic boarding schools:
MORE STAFF — First, we keep student-to-staff ratios low so that boys have an abundance of supervision and individual attention. Our staff are highly trained and most have bachelor or master’s degrees in their area of work.
ADVENTURE-BASED LEARNING — Our outdoor adventure program is second to none. Our students have regular opportunities to experience fun and challenging outdoor activities. Students enjoy camping, backpacking, rappelling, canoeing, and spelunking (cave exploration). Students are challenged physically and learn the importance of goals and perseverance.
MORE PRIVACY FOR EACH BOY — Rather than housing all the boys in a large dorm filled with bunk beds, our students enjoy their own bedrooms, separate from the noise and influence of the other boys.
MORE FAMILY VISITS — Residents are allowed to visit family on seasonally scheduled breaks.
MORE MISSION TRIPS — Mission trips form a strong element of the program, for this reason: as boys mature, they naturally desire to give back and serve others.
EXTENSIVE AFTERCARE PROGRAM — After completion of Teen Challenge Adventure Ranch, boys return home accompanied by a strong aftercare program to continue their positive growth. Aftercare is included in our tuition package.
Academics mean a lot to us at Teen Challenge Adventure Ranch for Boys, because we believe education is critical for future success. Within our private Christian school with fully accredited classes, boys complete courses led by certified teachers, with individual tutoring available to help those who need it. We offer a GED track for those with too many missing credits to finish high school in an appropriate time frame. Credits earned can transfer to private or public schools at home. Boys may also study basic vocational skills for example woodworking, basic electrical, construction and carpentry, shop skills, basic automotive, and more. After graduating from Teen Challenge Adventure Ranch, many boys opt to continue their classwork from home through dual enrollment with Alpha Omega Academy distance learning.
Boys at Teen Challenge Adventure Ranch take part in a multitude of recreational activities, both on and off campus. Besides being fun and physically challenging for the boys, it teaches them about reaching goals, communicating and cooperating well with others.

Topeka means “to dig good potatoes” in the languages of the Kansa and the Ioway. The potato referred to is the prairie potato (Psoralea esculenta), a perennial herb which is an important food for many Native Americans. As a placename, Topeka was first recorded in 1826 as the Kansa name for what is now called the Kansas River. Topeka’s founders chose the name in 1855 because it “was novel, of Indian origin and euphonious of sound.”Topeka’s Roots: the Prairie Potato Barbara Burgess]King, Dick (2005) “Topeka” rooted in spuds. Topeka Capital-Journal, 20 Nov.] The mixed-blood Kansa Indian, Joseph James, called Jojim, is credited with suggesting the name of Topeka. The city, laid out in 1854, was one of the Free-State towns founded by Eastern antislavery men immediately after the passage of the Kansas-Nebraska Bill. In 1857, Topeka was chartered as a city.
